Janet: Hard it was, really hard work, manual, we had a tractor (Fordson Major) that was all. Wheelbarrows, shovels, brooms, hand milking no milking machines, there was no electric, oil lamps indoors every door was covered in thick sticky varnish and my Mother had left, even by today’s standards, what would have been a proper house, Father had built it, and so she was not amused. Said she would never be a Farmer’s wife and she never was. So I got roped in to be a substitute really.
