It’s hard to believe that in the 1800s this small civil parish

of St Endellion supported five places of worship.  As well as St Endellion and St Peter’s Churches there were two thriving Chapels in Port Isaac – the Wesleyan Chapel on Middle Street and the United Methodist Free Church on Roscarrock Hill – and a Chapel in Trelights plus, for a time a time, a small Chapel in Port Quin. They all had large congregations and a full house at Sunday services and Sunday School as well as weeknight celebrations. They would all ring their bells on a Sunday and often they would all be ringing together, but somehow everyone recognised their own bell!

Things are very different today. The Wesleyan Chapel closed in the late 1970s with the majority of the congregation moving to the United Methodist Free Church on Roscarrock Hill.  When that closed the congregation split between Trelights Methodist Church and

St Peter’s Church, Port Isaac.
